For the final itself both players were given the very best of order and they didn’t disappoint with Seamy Martin hitting the Big 180 and checking out in 23 darts.  The man of the night Davey “The Bap” McCusker was in fine form all night and won his three winning legs in 19, 17 and 22 darts to claim the crown of 2013 CB Easter Open Darts Champion.  There was 180’s being hit all over the place and Davey McCusker also had a 13 dart leg in the early round of the competition.

It was another great year of competition darts and everyone hand an enjoyable night until the Bar closed at 11.30.  I’d like to take the time to explain to everyone that the original starting time of the event was put back by an hour (at the last minute) to suit individuals who couldn’t make the original starting time.  To get a late licence at the C.B.P.P.U we need to give two week’s notice.  I take fully responsibility for this and I can ensure everyone that at next year’s event there will be a late bar.

I’d like to thank everyone for turning up and minus the bar closing I hope that you all enjoyed it. Also to the bar staff on the night thanks for all your help and also thanks to the CB Flames and CB Archers for a very well smooth run competition

Plans are already under way for the CB Christmas Open and next year’s Easter competition.   So until next year keep practicing.

The dart teams from the CB organised their first ever joint competition on Tuesday Night and dart players from all the Belfast Leagues where represented with 62 players registering to play. The format for this event was 16 groups of 4 in a round robin with the top player from each group proceeding to the last 16.

Board 1 had groups one and two and it was teammates Eddie Donnelly and Simon Donnelly who topped their groups to meet in the board final, with Eddie winning 2-0 to put himself in the last eight. On board 2 the North Belfast Open Champion Mark Di Lucia made his way to the board final where he met Dee Smyth who had to come through a final leg playoff. Both players were hitting the scores but it was Mark who hit his doubles as he won 2-0. Board 3 brought allot of excitement as there was an early exit for much fancied Billy Brooks as Gerard Holmes won his 3 games to set up a board final with John Madden and was it Gerard that got the all-important winning double. On board 4 the Front Pages Eugene Brannigan played some lovely darts as he set up a board final match with Mark McVeigh. Both players had their chances but experience unveiled and Eugene went into the hat with a close victory.

On the fifth board Soupy Campbell put up an early marker as he made his way to the board final where he would play St Malachys Ciaran Smith. Soupy was found his range early as he went one up. Ciaran was unlucky missing the bull for a 167 allowing soupy to get the winner. The story of the day took place on board 6 as ten year old Steven McGuigan Jnr showed that he wasn’t there to make up the numbers. Steven won his first 2 games and also recorded a classy 85 finish and was unlucky in his third game as he missed 36 to go into the board final. With Paul McClean already qualified from his group he awaited the winner of the 3 way tie breaker between Stephen Donaldson, Steven McGuigan Jnr and Damien Corbett. With the crowd hoping young Steven McGuigan would get threw it was Stephen Donaldson who got the leg and into the next round.

James Bolton produced the best darts of the day on Board 7 as he recorded an excellent 15 dart leg and a 150 checkout, which was the marker for everyone to catch for the lowest leg and Highest Checkout. James won all his games to set up a board final with Keith Beale who had also won three out three. Again both players put on a show of brilliant darts with James hitting the winning doubles to win 2-0. On the last board young Sean Moran was the first to get to the board final as he awaited the winner of a playoff match between John Rafferty and Steven McGuigan Snr. Both players were finding it hard to finish until big Raff took out that all-important double. Sean Moran having watched the play off was feeling confident going into this one and it showed as he put in two great legs to win 2-0.

Quarter-Finals

Stephen Donaldson played his best darts as he won 3-0 against Sean Moran hitting a 180 and a 19 darter to make the semis. James Bolton kept his 100% record by beating Gerard Holmes 3-0. Eddie

Donnelly made the Semi’s as well with a 3-0 scoreline over Eugene Brannigan. The tie of the round seen Soupy Campbell take on his team mate Mark Di Lucia, Soupy was in great form and with his steady darts took the game 3-1.

Semi-Finals

Stephen Donaldson and James Bolton where both coming into this one on great form. Both players where hitting scores but it was the doubles that counted as James went into a 2-0 lead. Stephen pulled one back but James held on to reach the final. On the other board Soupy Campbell and Eddie Donnelly provided the crowd with a great game of darts with both players hitting 18 dart legs. The game went to the last leg and it was Soupy celebrating as he got the winning double.

Final

The crowd was split on who was going to win this one. James started the brighter of the two racing to a 3-1 lead with his heavy scoring and great set up play. But Soupy isn’t one for giving up as he started to pile on the pressure on James when he got the game all level for a nervy final leg for both players. They both started well hitting tons back to back but it was Soupy who had the first big chance to win but missed his double, James then came in and had a go himself but again he wired all three of darts, Soupy couldn’t believe his luck but it wasn’t to be as he couldn’t find the double and James made no mistake and was crowned the CB Open Champion 2011.

Both CB dart teams would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the event and for everyone who gave a hand on the night. Cheers
