C.B Archers 4 v 3 Johnnie Darks
The Archers secured top spot in the league after there second league win against the Johnnie Darks at the C.B union rooms.
Well once again the Darks turned up with a man short, would it be crucial?
The Archers got off to a flyer, taking the first two games with great wins coming from Martin Currie 2-1 (22), (24) and Kevin Mezza 2-1, (28), (26) darts over Binso Quinn (24) and Gary Dilucia (23). Both players were one game down and showed there fighting sprit to grind out wins. Team Captain Kevin Mezza also showed his determination in ensuring his team got the lead with a 75 finish of 25 bull.
The Darks bounced back and took the next three games, with good darts from Vinty Burns 2-0 (26), (24), Martin Carson 2-1 (27), (26) and the Dark himself Mark Dilucia 2-1 (21), (18) over Chris McMaster, Frank Mezza (24) and Paul Reynolds (23).
Kevin O’Reilly took the next for the Archers beating Marty McDaid 2- 0 (24), (23), Kevin having 3 chances to hit the big but just couldn’t land the last dart.
Score 3-3. Once again the Darks had no one to toe the oche in the last game. But would it have mattered with the Archers having an inform Joe Reynolds waiting in the wings. So the Archers take it 4-3, they go top of the league. Man of the match Mark Dilucia.
Sliabh Dubh 4 Vs 3 CB Archers
These weeks match was set up to be a cracker between league leaders CB Archers and second placed Sliabh Dubh. We couldn’t believe it looking at the match card we new the draw suited us and we could easily go two if not three up. It was a right shock. The Archers got their heads down and took the next two games with good wins from Joe Reynolds 2-0 in 26 and 25 darts and Chris McMaster 2-1 over Joe McCoubrey Jnr and Peter Mathews (24).
But it was soon over as Joe McCoubrey Snr beat Kevin O’Reilly Jnr 2-0 in 22 and 24 darts. So that was it. The come back was over and so was the game. Kevin had his chances but just couldn’t take them. Gary O’Reilly took the last game for the Archers beating John Moore 2-1 in 26 and 24 darts. John hit a 24-darter so these two teams are level at the top.

The game got under way and the Archers got on a roll winning the first five games with Martin Currie, Joe Reynolds, Kevin O’Reilly, Paul Reynolds and Gaz O’Reilly all winning comfortably. St Johns Star 6 – 1 C.B Archers
Archers Fall At Final Hurdle
The Archers travelled to the St Johns GAA Club this week knowing that a win would mean they would be the League Champions in there first year. But it just wasn’t meant to be. Things looked well when Gary (Gaz) O’Reilly started well with a 2-1 win. But that was it as the Star destroyed the Archers by winning the next six on the bounce living a bitter taste in the mouths of Kevin Mezza, Kevin O’Reilly Jnr, Marty Currie, Joe Reynolds, Chris McMaster and Paul Reynolds. With the Sliabh Dubh winning there last match it meant that there would be a play off for the league title.
3rd – July – 2008
League Play-off
Sliabh Dubh Public House
This one was going to be a cracker with very little separating these two sides all year. The Sliabh Dubh started well winning the first game as young Paul Reynolds couldn’t cope with Big Joe McCoubrey Snr. The Archers soon got one back with Marty Currie beating Peter Mathews 2-0. The Sliabh Dubh reeled of another two wins when Joe Reynolds and Big Kevin O’Reilly missed doubles. Could the Archer come back form 3-1 down you better believe it. Gary O’Reilly stepped up to put another score on the board for the Archers and Kevin Mezza made 3-3. the last game came down to big Chris McMaster who just didn’t get going at all and the League title stayed in west Belfast and the Sliabh are now the Eastwood Telebet Divis Dart League Champions.
Many will say the Sliabh Dubh won the league but we the Archers know we lost it. We had our chances and just didn’t take them. Its like the saying goes you can’t buy experience and the experience we gathered this year will hold us in good stead for years to come. The Archers will return and they will be bigger and better than ever.
